This course will introduce students to some of the themes and characteristics of western culture, such as: aspects on religion, philosophy, politics, and society.

1. Ancient Greek Mythology
2. Ancient Greek Philosophy
3. Ancient Greek polis & Democracy
4. The Rise of Christianity
5. The Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire
6. Medieval Islam + Medieval Feudalism
7. Medieval Papacy vs Empire + Medieval England
8. Renaissance, Reformation & Scienctific Revolution as Reaction to the Age of Faith
9. US History
10. Age of Faith, Age of Reason & French Revolution
11. Modern Europe & "The Political Collapse of Europe"

Assessment

Mid-term Quiz 50%
Final Exam 50%

In both quizzes, you need to answer 2 of the 3 Long Questions provided in 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can answer in either English or Chinese
